Popped into Prague

Well well well Munich airport prices are SO expensive holy cow! Luckily I wasn’t too hungry… 13€ avg for a salad and 15-20€ for a meal that looked very avg ugh. Good thing lots of outlets there… shitty wifi tho. Got 1/2 a wrap for almost 6€…. it cost slightly less on the plane haha

Flight was fast from Munich to Prague , 40mins, and I still slept haha Definitely not hot now…rainyish and 18C. brrrrrr especially after 33C days in Greece!!

It was cold, chilly and rather depressing frankly. My body was craving hot warm comfort food so… Chinese noodle in soup it was! I went to 天香阁 Nebeská vůně, about a 10 mins walk away and it was a good value chill place with some pretty tasty rice vermicelli in thicker soup with shitake mushrooms, napa cabbage and bak choy plus random meats haha Satisfying but a bit salty.

After some work the next day, I went out to try to catch the tram but the machine didn’t take my card 😦 Unfortunately, people weren’t keen to help. One lady said in English she didn’t understand English… and another avoided eye contact and tried very hard to ignore me and when I approached her to ask for help, she blatantly said no. 😦 Definitely different from my first experience in Prague…

Oh well, a lunch at Havelska Koruna, a fun cafeteria style set up traditional Czech cuisine resto made things better! Totally cheap and basic, good home cooking taste 🙂 I got the potato dumplings with spinach by just copying the person in front of me… overwhelming menu 🙂 Very, very filling. Don’t let the 2 massive balls of potato ham stuff dumplings food you. I was sated well into dinner time haha

Here, the Czech crowns are used though you can pay with credit card. I took cash out from an ATM with a major bank. TIP: learned from a website not to just use the random ATMs! They have massive fees! Best to use a major bank’s ATM, especially if it’s connected to the actual bank branch 🙂

WOW, I have forgotten how incredible the architecture is in Prague! So many colourful buildings, different embellishments, ornate outdoor decorations 😀 It’s so stunning ❤ Really lovely to see it all again.

I checked out the following wonderful sites, some again for a 2nd time and intentionally 🙂

  • municipal house
  • powder tower
  • old town square
  • astronomical clock +old town hall
  • National Gallery Prague – Kinsky Palace
  • Church of Our Lady before Týn
  • old town bridge tower
  • Klementinum
  • Charles Bridge
  • prague jewish quarter
  • Rudolfinum

After a good long walk in the day, I got some simple groceries for a salad, sausage omelette, and sandwich filling (got so much food for~10€ wow!), a notebook and body lotion to call it a day and get some good sleep before a full day of work tomorrow.

And what a day it was! I had a great day and went to a cool pub-style restaurant called Salanda. I had the traditional beef with creamy beef sauce with 4 massive slices of bread. Deelish! Got a paddle of 6 beers to try too: Yum!

I walked around Karlin area and it was very cool! I had a nice glass of orange juice at a lovely cafe / resto called Můj šálek kávy (means “my cup of coffee”). Lovely space with great wifi. This is such a fun and good vibes area with lively pubs, chill wine bars, diverse eateries, etc.: It’s like Preston in Melbs and Chinatown in Vancouver… how it’s totally redone itself and now is super cool and great vibe 🙂 I didn’t walk around for long as I was totally drained from being social and “on” all day! Intense! I slept very well hehe 🙂

Funny story that morning though, was that I was looking for a hair dryer and the host though the hair curler he had in his bathroom was a “hair dyer” haha

Busy day at work the next day but got to pop out for lunch 🙂 It was quite chilly and brooding kind of cloudy weather but I made it to Kro Kitchen & Rotisserie for lunch. Small, lovely little place with friendly staff and crabby looking chefs haha Excellent pork crackling chips with yummy lite sour cream dip w/ chives and also a complex piri-piri dip YUM! Got the grilled pork neck special and great quality meat but too salty 😦 Beans, kale and potatoes were nice! Good portions: I had to take 1/3 of my pork neck dish back home!

Popped into the Coffee Corner Bakery cafe but sadly, no baked bread 😦 So I went into Billa grocery chain quickly to get snacks and sandwich bread for travels tomorrow. It got much cooler and even rained a bit. Luckily I avoided getting soaked! 🙂

Got up early for work and to make my lunch and dinner sandwiches.

Went to the tram stop and tried to go in shops to ask to swap 10 czech crowns for 10C euro. Got good luck at shop 2 where the butchery had a customer come up and help me when she heard my English!

This elderly lady was so nice! She walked me to the machine, awaited for me to get my ticket and gave me the 10 czech crowns I needed!! She was patient and helpful and really helped me; Bless her!! ❤

Super fast with the tram to get to the Train station. Lots of shops and a cool massive Lego rendering of the Praha station! My train was late 10 mins but I got on all ok. Had to look for no text beside the seat number as there were reservations or reservations with bikes or spaces for handicapped people. Finally found a free seat and it’s near an elderly couple with their little dogs 🙂

After that a family with 4 kids came and sat nearby! I gave them my seat to be together and they had lots of energy! I tried to channel their rambunctious hatter as cafe white noise and actually got a lot of work done yay!

Then we suddenly stopped at a random station called Moorsburg or something and there was 1 announcement in German. Everyone started getting up to go!

I asked the elderly lady with whom I chatted about Mac laptops with what was going on and apparently the train had an issue and we had to change! I followed her who followed this calm couple and after a few exchanges we got a train to Freiling and then from there, a direct train to Muchen Hbf. The couple, in their late 50s, were going for the first time on a big 60k walk that’s part of a Pilgrimage! Good for them! Thanks to them and the elderly lady for their kindness and helpfulness!! ❤ Been lucky so far and very grateful 🙂

And the power plug works in this train woo hoo! Free wifi as well and it opens up to a nice website showing the final destination, movies, shows etc.

A guy asked to sit down across from me and of course it’s ok, it’s free for all and when he took off his mask to eat he is very handsome! Gosh masks really distort a conception of someone… How fascinating what one looks like can be so different from what we conceptualize! I offered to move my bag so he can use the table too and he kindly offered to get me something from the bar/ cafe 🙂

Then, next thing I knew… The train rolls into Zurich 🙂
