Wow! Quel sunshine :D

It’s been bright and sunny week and it’s made such a difference! The day is getting lighter earlier and earlier, I think it’s clear at about 7:15am nowadays. 🙂 Great to get outside and really soak it in!!

Been a nice week having some 1on1 catchups with friends! V+I went for a nice walk around and found out that Canopee Cafe is open again!! 😀 Really nice coffee there and chill dudes. I remember fondly of sitting there for a few hours to work and also to write my Xmas cards in 2019. The food was very nice. We went to Boulangerie St. Georges where she got a demi-baguette. I got a banoffee cake and the poor fellow working there, after putting it in the box, dropped it! So he got me another one and well, he gave me the dropped one too.. BONUS CAKE!!! I gave V the other cake and we both agreed it was deeeelectable :d

My friend K and biked over to Halle de la Machine. What a cool open space! It’s a performing arts theatre with huge mechanical like sculptures and a steampunk inspired carousel. Nice little gardens / park space around. I think they had music festivals there as there were other music halls around too 🙂 My friend was very generous and gave me some dried cranberries and also shared some homemade chocolate + banana cake: Yum!

Speaking of cake + patisserie, I spotted a flan noisette at Boulangerie Credo @ Marché Victor Hugo and had to get one! The lady was very friendly as usual and the cake was excellent! I also passed by Sena Fromagerie the other day and just popped in to have a peek and of course walked out with 11€ worth of 3 cheeses LOL

Speaking of more YUM, I had my Indian food fix! It was so So SO delicious!! I am convinced now to order weekly. May as well enjoy life while we’re still stuck in curfew times!! This time, S (J’s wife and from what I understand, the true masterchef of this whole operation) recommended a whole fish cooked in banana leaf, coconut milk and spices: OMG!! It was scrumptious! I had it with their aubergine based sauce and basmati rice for lunch and before I finished, I decided already to finish the other half for dinner that same day!! :9 I also got some chicken biriyani and that was exceptional too. Great portions! Always working out to be about 8€ per serve… I’m so ok with this! 😀

It’s been a fun week learning about French words and culture too:

  • Écoeurant: adjective for = sickeningly sweet. Note “coeur” is in the heart of this word!
  • 25 bday and 30 bday traditions: Apparently, when women reached the age of 25 and men, age of 30, if they were still single on their birthdays, they would wear a fancy + sophisticated hat/fascinator to advertise their eligibility. Apparently it’s not popular in the current generation… I can see why!
  • Le 4 heure: as in = the 4 PM. This is to represent the time when it’s snack time for kids. Frankly, I’m a fan of “quatre heure!” :d
  • Working on a Sunday: I went into a cute shop with Toulouse merch like “J’aime les Chocolatines” and “On va visiter la Daurade”. I asked the lady if she’s open on Sunday and she made this noise of part scoff, part offended, part WTF and replied incredulously that “Ouhhhh la la, on est pas ouvert les dimanches” = “Ohhh God NO, never Sundays”.

Of course, I wanted to contribute to the language and culture exchange and explained the Aussie term CBF to my flatmate LOL

Over the weekend, I caught up with friends M+M and also K and went for a walk outside. Definitely been a bit chillier this weekend but no rain so made the walks a bit easier. 🙂 Also, went to St. Aubin marché for my usual cheap 1,80€ for bio eggs and gozleme 😀 I tried the tacos from Mexcal Restaurant / El Botanero (their street food incarnation during the covid closure now) and they are super amazing too! Of course I also got the deep friend spring roll like Chevre + miel from the Cameroon stand too 😀

Also met up with the family and had a great night where we made lots of delicious cantonese food and watched Over the Moon as well! Great weekend ❤
